“Japanese members have contributed so very much to America left their homes and loved ones and came here to America not speaking a word of English and worked for the past 40 plus years to create the foundation with this nation and the True Parents to establish CIG and to lift up America. Now we have a chance to give something back to them to help their work in Japan and America.” - Mike Smith
In 2013, with the heart to support True Mother, a handful of Kodan sisters came together to form CARP LA, a witnessing team on Pasadena City College’s campus. They commit their time and heart every day, reading and studying the Divine Principle together with students. Together they cared for 10 guests, who have all almost committed to membership.
In January, True Mother invited a handful of UPA students to join CARP LA at PCC. Shortly after, in February, 40 Korean CARP students from Sun Moon University also came to support.
They joined CARP LA daily in the college’s cafeteria, affectionately coined the “holy ground,” where the group studies the Divine Principle with guests everyday.
Together they’ve reached out to 30 new guests who have all been actively involved since.
Many of the original CARP LA members come from Japan. Japan, as the Mother nation, has given so much in the support of providence. Due to strong anti-Unificationist sentiments in Japan, J-CARP (Japanese CARP) has often not been able to witness so freely. However, they have maintained a strong faith throughout.
CARP LA is looking to both learn and inherit from their faith and also to give support and hope to the J-CARP team by joining them to witness and hold events freely on campus.
They have planned a cultural exchange trip to Japan from May 25-June 6; this is the first time such an exchange has happened.
There are 30 students planning to participate in this 13-day cultural exchange to Japan.
The trip costs $40,000 (includes transportation, food, accommodations).
They have already raised $34,000 and have $6,000 left to go.
Upon hearing of this trip and how far they have come in raising funds, a small group, including Dave Stein, Mike Smith, and Mark Anderson, was moved to support CARP LA in reaching its financial goal.
“When we see something successful we should support and encourage it.” - Dave Stein
