I am a UBC student currently applying for my Graduate degree in Clinical Neuropsychology. This summer, from June-August, I will be embarking on the biggest journey of my life. I have been given the opportunity to work in a medical clinic in Kitale, Kenya, with the Kelowna Kenya Help team.
This medical clinic treats between 35 to 65 people a week in 2 hours (from 10-12 on Thrusday). I hope to change this as we are looking for a better room/accomodation to have the clinic open every 2nd day. Funding will greatly improve this chance of happening. With not enough space, poor medical supplies, and a serious lack of trained professionals, the funds I will be raising will cover the costs of my personal travels as well as improving the clinics needs.
My goal is to fundraise enough for not only my flights to go and serve, but an additional $3000 to bring medical supplies to help treat the communitie's serious diseases such as: jungle rot, tropical ulcers, Malaria, Typhoid, and jiggers.
The Medical clinic helps with:
· Treating the wounds of street families
· Screening and admitting the pre-teen children to hospitals
· Malaria and typhoid testing
· Assisting with prescriptions and anti-malaria medicine.
My goal is to bring two extra suitcases full of shoes, glasses (old and new), and supply the clinic with everything they need.
Here are some of the things I will be purchasing for the clinic:
·Any and all medical supplies: gauze, medical tape, gloves, sanitation kits, first aid kits.
Here are some general items I will be purchasing for the orphanage/Women in the community:
· Pharmacy sample size beauty items: Shampoo, lotion, shower caps, perfume, deodorant, makeup, and jewelry.
·Small toys,dolls, cars, and lego.
·shopping bags in clothe or recycle material (Winners bags/Super store...)
·canadian items: pins, balloons,ties,hats,stickers. Kenyans love to have things from Canada, let's bring them as much as we can!
