Szia/Hello! As a graduate student in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Education, I have been invited to present a paper at the America Week Conference in Hungary. My paper is on the differences between ESL education (English as a Second Language, taught in the United States) and EFL education (English as a Foreign Language, taught in countries where English is not a native language). Being able to present an academic paper at an international conference, especially in a field that stresses the importance of understanding other cultures, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a college student! In addition to America Week, I will also have the chance to help out in local English classes and observe training for Hungarian TESOL teachers. As a teacher of students from various backgrounds, the more insight I get into different education systems and English teaching methods, the better!
I will be traveling with other students from Nazareth College from May 8-19. We will be spending 6 days in Budapest, 4 days in Veszprém, and 1 day in Pécs. While in Veszprém, we will get to stay with university students and their families. Hungarians are well known for being hospitable and great cooks, so I am especially excited for this part of the trip :D
The total cost of the trip is $2,600.00, which includes airfare ($1,300), meals, accommodations, and other transportation for 11 days. Please help me achieve my dream of studying abroad and teaching others about international education! Köszönöm szépen/Thank you very much!
