Help the Buchanan's Through Tragedy

Kyle, Erica and their sweet baby Alex need your help.

Although their story together started years ago, this chapter started on June 18th, when they were on their way to their first family vacation with Kyle's family on the Jersey shore. They were so close to finishing the long drive, just about 20 minutes away from enjoying 5 days of sunshine, family, food, drinks and relaxation, when they involved in a tragic car accident. An uncontrolled car was coming towards them, head on, in their lane. With the car being so close and there being no where to go to avoid it, the car hit them head on. After impact, Kyle was able to come to and escape and with the help of an unknown man, they were able to pull Alex and Erica out of the back of the car just seconds before both cars exploded and burned up completely. Erica was airlifted to a nearby hospital capable of handling her injuries and Kyle and Alex were taken by ambulance to closest hospital.

As of result of the accident, Erica has a fractured skull, fractured vertebrae, her right leg is broke in 2 places, her wrist and some fingers in her left hand are broke and she's got swelling and bruises from head to toe. She's already had surgery for her leg and she'll be having surgery for arm soon. Kyle has broken vertebrae as well as a banged up foot.  Sweet Alex left the accident with only bruises from his car seat straps which are harly visable anymore.

As of yesterday, June 27th, the family is back home, all together, in their house. They came home with nothing. Nothing except Erica's medicine and a makeshift diaper bag for Alex with only the necessities. Everything they had was lost when the car burned up. Erica thankfully has a hospital bed, wheelchair and all necessary items to help care for her that home health delivered yesterday before they got back.

Erica has been so strong, and strongwilled, through this process.  She longs to get better for herself but mostly Alex.  She's stubborn, she's a fighter and she knows she will overcome this obstacle like she has so many others.  She knows what she has to do and is easily lifted in spirit by our support.

Kyle has shown his stength and love for his family like nothing you have ever seen before.  Through his injuries, he has been by Erica's side day in and day out.  To hear him tell their story and to look in his eyes while he tells is viewing true unconditional love.

Now the recovery continues and the healing begins. This sweet family has a long road ahead of them. Kyle is going to try to go back to work soon if his back allows him to do such. Erica is going to be off work for some time due to the extent of her injuries. She can't start to walk for at least 6 weeks and recovery from her hand and neck are unknown.

So they need our help. They need your friendship.  They need your support. They need your encouragement. They need your love.  And they also need your financial support and donations. This journey is not going to be cheap with all of the medical care needed, the time off work and the need to replace so much that was lost. They lost their car, almost all of Alex's stuff that he currently needs (stroller, all his summer clothes, all his care items, toys, bumbo, bouncer, car seat base, pack n' play, etc. etc. etc. Erica and Kyle both lost the majority of their summer clothes and all of their toiletries. It's heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for some many reasons; for what they've lost and what we all could have lost.

God was watching over them on June 18th. God gave Erica the motherly instinct to jump on top of Alex's car seat right before impact to protect him. God gave Kyle the strength to wake up, escape the car and pull his wife and child out before further tragedy. God didn't let this happen too far away from family so that Kyle's family could take care of Alex. God made sure that we were in this family's life to take care of them after.

We ask that you help this family anyway you can. God gives us all gifts, talents and meaning to our life. Please use your God given gift to help. Whether it be financially or fixing food and taking it to the house, taking over donations, helping the family with errands or chores around the house, babysitting or just simply praying for the them.  Every ounce of your genorsity will be appreciated more than you know.

Thank in advance for your kindness, generosity, love and support. I told Erica today that she's always danced through life with a polar pop and a smile and this chapter of her life will be no different, especially with her husband and baby by her side.  What a gift it is that God allowed us more time on Earth with this family.
