Help us Deliver!

Baldivis! We need your help, so we can help you!

Since COVID-19 the most common question we keep getting asked is, When are you going to start delivering?

If it was only that easy.

We built Brother of Mine with a dream of providing a place for personal growth and to positively influence the people and businesses surrounding the hospitality industry. Three years on and we had a team of 45 people working in our beautiful home from home and 300m2 building in Baldivis.  We invested in bricks, mortar and the futures of our people. Since COVID-19 we have had to adapt significantly to stay open and now offer an online / takeaway service and operating in a very small footprint in our cafe. Not for lack of trying, very, very hard, this alone doesn't keep everyone in work.

So for us, adding delivery comes at a huge risk and potentially a very high cost to our business and our team. We have to think different. Delivery is simply unachievable in our current climate without either increasing debt by raising capital to purchase more vehicles, compromising our offer by using a third party expensive delivery services or by adding further financial stress to our team by requiring them to change their private insurance policies or potentially bare costs down the line.  All of this comes at a cost and not without significant compromise, therefore we don't believe any of them are a truly viable or sustainable option at this time.

We know broadening our service will help us in these tough times, fundamentally keep more jobs and connect BOM to outside our premises. Fundamentally with all this on the line, it has to work financially to keep us open, on track and future proof.

So we have been thinking. How can we make this work, for now and for the long term?

Firstly, we know we need to create a sustainable delivery offer capable of reaching our community when you need us.  But we faced with the following;

1. "Personal" Car insurance does not normally cover "food delivery" so we would be restricted to offer this to team members who  can drive and are currently insured for that purpose. There are only a few insurance companies who allow for this. Those who are not would have to re-insure their vehicle and possibly incur excessive costs or risk out of pocket expenses.

2. There is no specified "personal vehicle allowance" under the restaurant award for personal vehicles used for work purposes. The only allowance employees can claim is that in their end of year tax returns. To cover for this significant delivery charges would need to be applied.

3. It has to be fair and therefore has to be accessible to our entire team regardless of driving ability, age or car ownership.

In conclusion, If it doesn't work financially for anyone, it doesn't work for BOM.

So, we need to be smart in the way we do this and we believe with your help, we may have the answer.

This gofundme has been set up to support us in the purchase of multiple electric bikes capable of delivering hot food and drinks our community in Baldivis. These are fully road legal bikes with no license required - they are treated the same as normal road bicycles, just electric.

The bikes are made by locals here in West Australia and will provide our community a greener, cleaner and convenient delivery service for now and when we are back to "business as usual" whilst reducing running costs and unnecessary overheads.

We still have to be sensible with how we intend to manage delivering to Baldivis but we are confident we have a fair, transparent and reliable new age system that will work and keep more jobs, maybe even make more.

So from all of us, we are asking for your help by way of donation to contribute to the purchasing of these bikes and the necessary safety equipment for their riders. The more bikes we buy, the more jobs we secure.

All $5 Donators or more will be gifted a free "limited edition" Brother of Mine Sticker.

Donate over $50 and your hand written name or signature will be placed on a mural on the outside our business at the grand post Covid-19 re-opening of Brother of Mine.

Thank you so much for your continued support. Together, we will get through this.

Jos, Ben and the Team at BOM.
