Hi I’m John the “Main Dude” & this is my best friend and son Leo the “Lil Dude”! I am originally from New York but we now live in Northampton. We kick started Brooklyn Brownie Co. in the summer of 2019. We came up with chocolatey treats covered in all sorts of sweets to sell by the postal box dozen. Starting from local deliveries, to the demand for mail orders worldwide it really suddenly went through the roof. We just like the fact that we can make other people smile and it doesn't feel like work as we are doing it together. For me the best part is that I get to do it all with Leo which is so awesome. The start of Brooklyn Brownie Co. has extra significance to us both as Leo's mother and NHS nurse took her own life only days after Brooklyn Brownie Co. was set up on July 26th 2019. We truly believe baking and working on the business together has helped us both get through an extremely tough time for the family. If we didn't have Brooklyn Brownie Co. to keep us going and to distract us, then I don't think we would've got through the summer of 2019. As two dudes we also found it possible to open up to each other about our feelings while coming up with some of the wacky designs and creations for the business. Since the start we have had so many amazing opportunities and met so many great supportive people.
Here we are a year on from a day that changed our entire life.... I would like to say together we have accomplished a fair amount of productivity and growth during this year. Leo moved into a new school, made new friends, was in the papers a few times, entered a robotics competition (he is a geek like his dad), created over 30 flavors of brownies, collaborated with the Chocolate Smiths to create a chocolate bar that sold over 5000 units in a month collaboration bar , launched our new website and have been shortlisted as finalists in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. Honestly we have been sprinting since day one, at times going to sleep at 4am but doing it smiling... knowing we are doing it all for us.
We would like to grow our little home bakery business, and your generosity could help lighten the load and help us stop sprinting and allow us to keep pace in what is a long term marathon... suddenly becoming a single parent household has been stressful at times especially when deciding to pivot careers to pursue creating Brooklyn Brownie Co. to help support Leo, we did this so lil dude always felt secure knowing where I was at all times, at home baking and waiting for him to get in from school so he could do his homework and then get to business baking with his dad. We have some really big plans and every dime we make goes back into the business funds us directly as we bake from our home. Recently we saved up and purchased a 1998 Chevy American ambulance. We intend on modifying it into our shop on wheels! But currently it is in a pretty poor state, the last MOT was 2010, basically it’s a semi driving rusty shell but we would like to bring it back to life..... this vehicle was the only one in our price range in the U.K. and it popped up out of the blue and we know it was meant to be.... that restoration along with a small depositor as it takes around 2 hours for Leo and I to scoop our brownies each day for orders.... with a depositor it would give us back that time as it would only take 15 minutes, this would be a massive improvement in our quality of life as it would give us back time for each other. We just need your help, any help would be appreciated as it’s one step closer to our goal of complete self reliance and security for the future.
