Bring Kevin Home!

Donation protected

Kevin Barry II was born with developmental disabilities with limitations similar to Cerebral Palsy. His disabilities have confined him to a wheelchair for his entire life, he is now 35 years old. However, that does not keep him or his family from helping him enjoy the things he loves such as fishing, camping and his beloved animals. Kevin lived at his home in Woodbury most of his life and knows this house as his home. The State of CT had helped with extensive renovations of the home to make it fully accessible for his day to day special needs. Kevin had a job at a local pet store which he loved and thoroughly enjoyed for over ten years. All of his siblings, due to the exposure of him, had worked for the state for the department of developmental services. Kevin has a quick smile for anyone he meets and always is quick to share stories about his pets and is interested to know everything about yours. If any of his family members were to get a new pet, Kevin was the first to know. If there was a new car, Kevin was the first ride given. If a new baby was born, Kevin was (nearly the first) to hold them. He is completely integrated into his large extended family which is close to a hundred people. We can say, without a doubt, he is the very favorite of his 22 first cousins and the favorite of out of five children. He is certainly the favorite Uncle to his own many nieces and nephews. He has the ability to hug you with his soul.

In the beginning of February 2013, Kevin accompanied his mother to her childhood home to visit an aunt for her birthday. A blizzard, a small house fire and the repairs following the house fire delayed his return home. While visiting her childhood home in Maine, amongst all this, Kevin's mother filed for residency in Maine, divorce and sole guardianship of Kevin without prior discussion or consent from Kevin's father. This has necessitated him to live in a split level home, limiting his access to outings (due to the fact he is wheelchair bound and there are no ramps) necessitating him to sleeping in a living room on a couch and use a portable commode. This has infringed upon his safety, comfort and dignity. It is our wish to return him to his HOME in CT, where his safety, comfort and dignity can be restored and he will be surrounded by all who love him and all he loves. This can't be accomplished without a legal battle. We are asking for help in funding that battle.
