Brian vs Guillain Barre Syndrome
Donation protected
Imagine, how terrifying it is to be trapped in a paralyzed body, not able to speak or breathe on your own but your mind is fully aware of everything and it all happens within a week.
My brother Brian is currently in the ICU at Integris Medical Center fighting a very rare disease, Guillian Barré Syndrome that was caused by complications from the flu and pneumonia. It is a progressive peripheral nerve disorder that causes total body paralysis. While he is expected to recover, there is no telling how long it will take.
He is currently sedated on a ventilator. Brian completed five Plasma exchange treatments. This is one of the standard treatments used for Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The healing process is slow as the body has to try to repair the damage done to the entire nervous system which is extremely complex and intricate. What is known, is that eventually extensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation will be required to get Brian to his new normal to relearn everything, it is going to be a long road to recovery, anywhere from months to years, every case is different. In the meantime, he cannot provide for his family and April must take leave from her job to care for him.
Please consider donating and sharing anything you can to help my brother and his wife get through this incredibly difficult time. The money will be used to pay the medical bills/fees and get him through rehab as there is no health insurance-
Funds raised will go towards:
• Medical expenses, consultations, rehab facilities
• Caretaker expenses: 24/7 bedside medical care until mobile.
• Possible counseling for Brian- as severe depression is commonly associated with Guillain Barre Syndrome.
