Bronx Student Earns Rare Opportunity
Donation protected
My name is Brenston Ayers. I am currently a senior attending DreamYard Preparatory High School in the Bronx. The reason I am writing to you today is because I have been fortunate enough to be accepted into a prestigious enrichment program in England. The tragedy is that I do not have enough funding to get me there. I am hoping that after reading this letter, you would find kindness in your heart to support my fundraising efforts. Here is my story.
I have been selected to attend the Midsummer Conservatory Program at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) at the University of Oxford, England. I auditioned for the program by video submission, performing monologues from "Much Ado About Nothing" and "The Runaways." I competed against thousands of other applicants and was fortunate to be chosen as one of the six student to attend this program. This is a huge accomplishment for me because learning has never been easy for me as a student with a learning disability. I have always had to work above and beyond with extra effort to learn and do well in and outside of school. I have always wanted to receive formal performing arts training in Shakespearean Theatre abroad, but I never thought it would ever be possible for someone like me. In fact, if I make it there, this will be my first time traveling outside of the country.
I know this summer experience will be very challenging for me. I have no doubt that it will be difficult. However like in the past, I will continue to be relentless. My learning disability has not stopped me before, it sure won't stop me this time. I plan on taking this experience in great strides. It will not only broaden my horizons, it will also prepare me for college as I have been accepted to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA)
located in New York City, New York.
Even though BADA gave me a full scholarship to their summer program, the scholarship does not cover airfare, ground transportation, or food expenses. I am asking friends, family, and kind strangers to help me fundraise my way to England. Any donation would be much appreciated! I sincerely thank you for your time and consideration for reading this letter. I hope you can support me and perhaps share this with a friend. I know for a fact that if I make it to England, I will be carrying you in my heart with many thanks.
Sincerely,
Brenston Ayers
