New Lungs for Nat

My name is Natalia Rivero Borrell. I'm 18 years old and I'm on my 3th year of high school. I have 2 brothers aged 16 and 20 years, respectively. I love food! Especially pastas, chocolates, chips and chamoy. I like sleeping, watching movies, going to parties and many other things like a normal teenager.

Also, I have an illness called "Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD)" which is genetic and affects my lungs. The cilia (the hairs we have on our organs) of my lungs have little movility, so they can't move and expel mucus from my body, causing the mucus to get stuck in my lungs and generates heavy infections.

In general I have tried to live my life in the most normal way possible. I've been in the same school for 15 years and I've been in the Scouts for 10 years, that is where I met most of my best friends.
I have friends that would not change for anything or anyone and of course, there's my family. The ones who bring out the best and worst of me, and yet are the ones teaching me to live and grow.

Unfortunately, my illness prevents me physically, socially and spiritually develop myself the way I wanted. It is a very rare disease, and doctors haven't found a cure for it.
It has evolved to the point that right now my lung function is 25% and I need a double lung transplant.

Having new lungs will allow me to do everything I've always wanted. Getting wet in the rain, play in the snow, not wearing sweater every day, play sports, stop taking meds and therapies. Having a life without constant worry.

The only problem is that the operation cost is too high: $ 1,000,000 and I do not have the resources to pay for it. We are halfway, thanks to a lot of work of my familiy and friends, fundraisers, races, yard sales... But I still need your help to make this big change in my life. With your contribution I will have the opportunity to live, appreciate and enjoy the world in a different and better way.

Hola! Me llamo Natalia Rivero Borrel, tengo 18 años y voy en 5to de preparatoria. Tengo 2 hermanos de 16 y 20 años respectivamente. Me gusta comer, sobre todo pastas, chocolates, comida chatarra (papas y dulces de chamoy, dormir, ver películas, ir a fiestas y muchas otras cosas que no me alcanzaría el espacio para mencionarlas. Padezco una enfermedad llamada “Disquinesia Ciliar Primaria” la cual es genética y afecta las vías respiratorias, en mi caso los pulmones. Ésta hace que los cilios (los pelitos que tenemos en nuestros órganos)de mis pulmones, que son los que se mueven y expulsan el moco de mi cuerpo, tengan poca movilidad, lo cual causa que el moco se quede estancado en mis pulmones y genera infecciones fuertes.

En general he tratado de vivir mi vida de la forma mas normal posible. Llevo en la misma escuela 15 años y es ahí donde he conocido a la mayoría de mis mejores amigas. Estoy en los Scouts desde hace 10 años e igual he encontrado personas a las cuales quiero demasiado. Tengo amigos a los cuales no cambiaría por nada ni nadie y claro, también está mi familia que son los que sacan lo mejor y peor de mí, y a la vez son los que me van enseñando a vivir y a crecer.

Desgraciadamente mi enfermedad no ha dejado desarrollarme física, social y espiritualmente de la manera en que yo quisiera. al ser mi enfermedad muy rara, no se ha encontrado una cura para la misma. Y ésta ha evolucionado a tal grado que ahorita mi función pulmonar está al 25% y necesito un trasplante doble de pulmón.

El tener unos pulmones nuevos me va a permitir hacer todo lo que siempre he querido, que es: poder mojarme en la lluvia, ir a la nieve, salir sin suéter todos los días, hacer un deporte, dejar mis medicinas y terapias y tener una vida, sin preocupaciones constantes.

El único problema es que la operación tiene un costo demasiado alto ($1,000,000 de dólares) y no cuento con los recursos para pagarla. Es por eso que necesito tu ayuda para poder realizar este gran cambio en mi vida y reunir la mitad que falta. Con tu aportación voy a tener la oportunidad de vivir, apreciar y gozar el mundo de una mejor y diferente manera.
