 I'm Roma.

My husband James and I arrived at the off road bike park Saturday morning 7/9. As we were pulling up, I noticed a dog walking around the parking lot. The was uncommon. I thought, hey ..it's hot and dry out here. I'll get him some water. Having 2 dogs at home, I keep a dish for water in the car. I also bring snacks of cheese stick for after the ride, but rather offer the dog both water and my cheese stick. As I Approached, he was very mellow. Once I got closer, I was overwhelmingly shocked at his condition. Half of the hair on his back was gone and raw red angry skin was exposed. This rocked me back on my heels. The dog was laying down when I offered the cheese and her gently took it in little bits. Then I offered water and he slowly lapped some up.

I looked around to see if anyone looked like they claimed him. People were walking by like they weren't interested. I had to think. We got on our bikes and rode the trail. My mind was on the doggy. When we got done with the trial, I had another cheese stick I offered and more water. My husband came over to checkout the doggy. He was shocked as well. There was nothing we could do right then. We packed our bikes and drove the 30 minutes back home. We talked it over and decided we needed to act. Leaving him just was not an option. We both have very busy scheduals and didn't need this right now. But I would have never been able to sleep, knowing this sweet, affectionate pup was mortally injured with no help in sight.

When we got home we quickly unloaded the bikes and put a crate in the car and drove right back to the bike park. He was still there. I located a vet that would see us. By noon Saturday he was on meds and I am providing hydro therapy to his back in a shower with a hand held. 10 minutes twice a day with the temp gently warm/cool. Flesh and hair comes away in frightening amounts. I was squeamish, but I guess I got over that. We named him Boulder, after the bike park. He is loving, sweet and happily walks into the shower even after the 1 st water therapy. It must feel nice to him and I'm glad. We keep him separated from our other 2 dog during this time. Rough housing is Not needed right now but will be welcome in he future. They have sniffed and are aware of each other. If you can find it in your heart to help, we and Boulder would be very grateful.  We have welcomed him into our familie. We are commited to providing a safe and caring forever home for Boulder.
