Dear Family and Friends,
For more than two years now, my daughter,Jacquelyn, and I have prayed about a medical, children oriented mission trip. We have a burden to be the “feet” ( Romans 10:15 …How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things) and show Christ’s love in action ( 1 John 3:18… my little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth). To bring love, compassion and the message of Christ to a community in need.
How God has worked has been amazing. The last place on “our” list for a mission trip was Africa. God had other plans. We are still amazed how this unfolded before us and so humbled to be able to be a part of this truly wonderful opportunity.
This August 5-19, 2015 we will depart with Mentor Leaders Leaders, a non-profit Christian humanitarian organization, on their expedition to Gbentchal, West Africa.
Mentor Leaders has developed a “heart for the nations.” Their goal is to provide our global brothers and sisters with clean water through drilling wells and building eternal relationships.
Dr Steve Swain, Medical director for Mentor Leaders will be catering to the needs of both children and adults during our visit. He will perform routine exams and address any health needs they have. This is the time when the children under the Mentor Leaders sponsorship program are given vitamins, immunizations, and measurements are recorded to track their progress. These activities take place in a makeshift clinic set up inside the Hope center, the church at the center of the Mentor Leaders campus. This is where I will be helping the most, Lord willing.
Our team will host a Vacation Bible School and a purity camp for young teenage girls- this is where Jacquelyn hopes to be the biggest blessing. We pray that her compassion for young people and her love for music will enable her to jump right in and allow God to use her in a mighty way. Other team members will also be hosting a conference for both the men and the women in Gbentchal. Founder of Mentor Leaders, David Whetstone, Project Coordinator, Daniel Hughes and William Koatidja, the National Pastor there in Gbenthcal will be heading up the Mentor leaders team and overseeing all of the events during our two weeks stay.
This trip is costly; $3600.00 per person. This includes the cost of the airfare, transportation and housing for two weeks. Incidentals such as visa applications, medical preparations, immunizations, and supplies, etc are not included in that amount.
We will be traveling from Paris with the Mentor Leaders team to Lome, Africa. Then travel by van approximately 14 hours across the country to Gbentchal. This will be challenging as we transport our water in and will not have electricity, etc. We have camped before, but this will be an entirely different “roughing it” experience on many levels. Levels we look forward to.
We know this is a large amount of money and times are tight. We cannot possibly help in Gbentchal without your financial support but more importantly, your prayers. Any amount you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.
Prayers for our safety, endurance, physical health and witness for Christ will also be needed and appreciated. Due to no electricity, etc. we might not be able to post updates while away, but will share with you how you were able to partner with us to make a difference when we return. We are prayerful our hearts are softened and open to whatever God has in store for us.
Thank you for your careful consideration to support us financially going to Gbentchal and for your prayers.
