Adams' Sisters: Botswana Summer 2014

In June 2014, we are taking a two-week trip with a team of 10 to Botswana with a budding nonprofit ministry called Son Safaris. Son Safaris seeks to share the love of Christ through acts of service. We will be installing mosquito netting on the windows of all the houses in a village to improve health and food sanitation. Additionally, we will help remove and destroy an invasive species of poisonous shrubs that threatens livestock and children.
As this is a young nonprofit, the underlying mission of the trip is to determine the needs, values, and goals of the community rather than imposing our preconceived notion of how to help. Doing so will allow Son Safaris to better serve the community and people in years to come.
I look forward to using the skills gained in my master's degree as I help construct safeguards to prevent mission drift, determine standards for program evaluation, and explore opportunities to partner with other sectors in Botswana to further stimulate the economy and provide job opportunities. As an internationally recognized animal photographer, Payton will use her skills to document the trip. Her abilities partnered with our trip leader's experience as a safari ranger will allow her to take images of wild native animals and proceeds from her photographs will go back into the ministry.
All donations are appreciated in helping us reach our goal of $7,600. If we surpass our goal, the proceeds will go towards another teammate still fundraising.
