My son John Borek Jr was shot in the neck April 8, 2012 which has left him paralyzed from the neck down. He continues to train to increase his movements and continues to get better. He is currently enrolled fulltime at UNCC in the engineering department. He has been able to attend college, go to therapy and visit doctors and friends with the use of his Wheelchair. On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, as he was leaving the park, he had a moment of dizziness that made him unable to lift his head from the driving controls on his headrest. His chair continued to move straight forward when he should have turned left to follow the trail. Just 4' from the concrete was a 12' drop into a ravine. The miracle was that he did not go end over end, but had the chair slide down the slope on its left side and back. He was not badly injured for which I am truly thankful. His wheelchair however was badly damaged. We do not know the scope of the repair cost at this point, but since I know how much the chair cost, I'm afraid it will be extremely high. Our homeowner insurance and medical insurance will not cover this repair. Once the chair is fixed, I plan to find out how to get it covered for future accidents, but until his chair is fixed, he is forced to stay in bed. His college classes have already started. He is supposed to start water therapy next week. Without a chair that he can be secured in and one that can be tilted back for pressure relief so that he does not get any "bed sores", he will not be able to leave his bed to attend these or any other events.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. If we are able to get the park to help with the repair cost of the wheelchair, any excess donations will be used for his continued therapy at Race To Walk or will

be donated to another individual that needs help.
