Recently, over a period of three weeks, I was able to try out for the Carolina Hurricanes Quebec Pee Wee Team and have been selected as one of the 18 players to represent the team, community, and state in the World Wide Championship of Pee Wee Hockey in Quebec City, Canada.
This event is best described as the Little League World Series of Baseball, except its for hockey. It has hosted over 6,500 teams and 12,000 participants from all over the World including Switzerland, China, Mexico, Finland, Japan, Russia, Germany, and Australia.
Myself, along with 17 of my ice brothers will have the experience of being housed with French Canadian families in their homes and learn their customs and lifestyles. While we are there we will also take part in touring the 400 year old city and enjoy festival activities such as the Winter Carnival in Quebec City.
I have worked very hard in this sport, on and off the ice so that I am able to play at the level that I play at as a female competing in a boys division, and my skills have only advanced in the girls division because I am able to keep up and compete with the boys. Having this opportunity to play in an international tournament, and to be able to show the world what I can do is a great honor to me and it will be a great experience for me and possibly my future in the great sport of hockey.
If you can or will, please help make it possible for me to be able to experience this cultural and educational once in a lifetime journey. Any amount will be greatly, greatly appreciated. More than the hockey, it will be a learning and educational experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
