Booktini-Oakland Community Service 2014

Donation protected
Since 2010, The Oakland/East Bay chapter of BookTini Book Club has fostered a love for reading and sharpened the comprehension skills of children by donating over 600 books to local organizations and individuals in need.

This year is no exception: to assist young scholars in our community, we have adopted two 6th grade classrooms from United for Success Academy (http://www.ousd.k12.ca.us/ufs) in East Oakland's Fruitvale district. We plan to provide up to 240 books to help further their education.

Funds are scarce and the children often have to share bookd with up to four other students. Our goal is to raise money to purchase 2-3 books for each 6th grade student at UFS Academy. With your donation, we hope to instill a passion for reading, and create an environment where learning resources are accessible. We hope to provide the following books that are part of the 2014-15 class curriculum:

"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie

"Street Life: Poverty, Gangs and a Ph.D." by Victor Rios

"Bone: Out from Boneville" by Jeff Smith

BookTini-Oakland, the 6th grade classes at United for Success Academy, and many of our family and friends are excited and eager to see this project succeed. You can be a part of that excitement by supporting our project with a $5, $10, or $20 donation.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We are raising funds throughout the entire month of July, and look forward to whatever support you can provide. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email redacted].
