Bonnie's Bucket List

Donation protected
I don't know where to begin. My mom, Bonnie, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive Sarcoma of the lung in October of 2014. When the doctors were unable to sub-type this sarcoma, they consulted the Sarcoma team at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Florida. Two biopsies later and three months later we have gotten absolutley no further with information on what type of sarcoma my mom is facing but have recently discovered it has now spread to lymph nodes in her mediastinum. The only option she has now been offered is chemo for palliative purposes. In other words, this is not curable.

My mom is such a unique individual. She is full of love for others. I can remember growing up how many people she has taken into our home until they could get on their feet. Over the years my sister and I have had so many friends with whom my mom always welcomes in and treats them as one of her own. My mom is always giving. She gives and gives and it seems as if she never gives enough to her own self. This is a woman that every Christmas has a "stash." I learned about this said "stash" this past year when I was out with my mom and she was buying a bunch of random ornaments and other holiday goodies. I said to her, "who is all that for?" She replied, "Oh this is for my stash." I then inquired about this stash and she explained to me that every year she buys extra things in the event that if someone comes to our Christmas party or gives her a gift she always has something to give back. What an idea! Anyways enough about the stash. My mom gives so much of herself to everyone. She is an excellent nurse, mom, friend, wife, because of this.

My mom is crazy and always ready to have a good time. There were many sleepovers and parties with friends growing up where my mom always embarassed me. Looking back my friends LOVED how crazy and fun she was. Her kooky sense of humour has stood out for many years amongst family and friends. She has her own language that we all have grown to love and know very well. In fact I hate to admit it but some of these crazy things have transpired into my own life. I find myself saying some of these ridiculous sayings and singing out loud about whatever I am doing at the moment. I always told myself I would NEVER be like my mom because she is crazy and she drives me crazy. As I grow older I find it not so bad to be like my mom. She is an amazing woman. More than ever I look up to her and hope that one day I too can be as giving, loving, and strong as she is.

My hope is that with whatever my mom decides, whether it be to do a few rounds of palliative chemo, or to just live out the rest of her life, that she gets an opportunity to do some of the many things she has always wanted to do. I would love to help her to achieve these items off of her bucket list, however, I can't do it alone. Mom was able to do some Smoky Mountain climbing this past Thanksgiving while we were up in North Carolina which was such a great experience. I know my mom has a list of things she wants to do, but she is very unsure of how she will ever get to do them or if she will even be able to. I say, NEVER say NEVER. Now is the time to live and be more alive than ever.
