Bernard's Battle: Overcoming Cancer

Donation protected
Hey Guys. This is my Dad.
His name is Bernardino Secundino, and on July 7th, our family discovered my dad's gastric cancer. Being from small town Bainbridge, Ga, he has to travel  to Augusta, Ga for treatment for this rare and aggressive cancer. He's in Stage 3, which means it has already spread to his spleen, pancreas, and has affected some lymph nodes, even though we are only  just now discovering it. On the 28th of July 2017, he is having a procedure done to see the total damage and whether or not it has progressed to his liver.  A good scenario would include it not spreading to the liver, surgery to remove the tumor, and chemotherapy. If it has progressed to his liver, then there is little that doctors can do. Right now, he isn't doing well as he can't stomach much food and vomits often. He's already lost 45 pounds in the past few weeks.... Whichever they discover this friday, it will be a long, uphill battle for my dad.

Here's the thing. My dad has led a rough life. Being an immigrant from Mexico, he worked in the tomato fields of south Georgia. He became an American citizen when my brother, sister, and I were young.  We didn't have much growing up. In fact, I remember months at a time where we didn't even have electricity for our old, dilapidated trailor. I can't say that everything was always perfect, but my dad NEVER abandoned us. He did the best he knew how to do, and he always encouraged us to learn from his mistakes and get our education. Today, I am a mere 4 weeks shy of obtaining my bachelor's degree because he instilled in me the value of education.

Now, we need your help, family and friends. The trip to Augusta for the procedure is five and a half hours. This isn't including stops that will be taken to give my dad a break when he does have chemotheropy treatments and is weak. Not to mention, he works as a custodian for the Post Office to provide for himself and my mother. With the procedure to be done, they won't have income for a while as he recovers.

What I would love is to have a fund to help my sister transport my dad to and from the doctor. My brother lives in Tennessee, and I live in Kentucky, so this is a way we can help. This fund will also help with the cost of the procedure and other medical bills that insurance won't cover, hotel stays for my devoted sister, and continued care for my father. My target goal might change as we hear from the insurance company. More details will come as we begin this journey, becuase we've only just started. Everything is still so new and scary.

I am a Christian, and I know that God can turn something awful into something beautiful. I trust that He is in control. And I pray that if you are willing and able, that you could contribute to our fund to show love and encouragement to a man who is about to face the biggest battle of his life.

Thank you, guys.
