Be Nu and Ah Na's Mini Van

Donation protected
Be Nu, Ah Na, and their two daughters, are a strong, beautiful refugee family from the northern most region of Burma. After years of seeking refuge they found their way from a subsistence-farming, rural village to Wheaton, IL as official U.N. refugees accepted by the United States.

Life in Wheaton is hard for a family from Rural Burma. Not being able to afford a car makes it very, very hard. Help give Be Nu and Ah Na independence and a strong start to their new lives here in the U.S. Please donate to help them get a car! Any amount will help.

Kathryn and I met this extraordinary family last May when we signed up to be their "new neighbors", a program that connects a local family with a refugee family to create an opportunity for friendship and support as refugees adjust.

When we first met Be Nu and Ah Na and their two girls we sat in their apartment around food, laughing, drawing pictures to communicate and trying our best to understand each other. We instantly felt a connection and have grown to love this family. That first memory is one of our most treasured cross cultural experiences, right here in Wheaton. Since then we've got together with the family regularly and become good friends. We've learned a lot from them and are constantly inspired by their hospitality, hard work and their commitment to learning english and adjusting to life here.

The hard reality for Be Nu and Ah Na

Each day at 4pm Be Nu leaves for shift work in a factory. He works all night often arriving home at 4 or 5am. He sleeps for a few hours and gets up to take english classes... and does it all again. Be Nu hopes to get his GED and he works incredibly hard to provide for his family but not having a car limits his options. Right now Be Nu has an offer for a better job but without a car he is unable to take this new job.
Above: Be Nu not only works hard he also helps others! This is Be Nu donating his time to paint the First Presbyterian Church's nursery.

Ah Na is an equally hard worker, when she can't find a ride she will sometimes bundle up their two kids and walk two miles to get groceries. Ah Na is also expecting a new baby in February!

Without a car Be Nu and Ah Na's hard work is made even harder! Getting to overnight shifts, Dr's appointments and even the store is very difficult in suburban Chicago without a car. They need their independence,  they need a car of their own.

I told Be Nu, we have all received help at some point, there are many people who would love to help you get on your feet here in this country.

Will you help Be Nu and Ah Na?  Any amount would be wonderful.
