Benjamin Thomsen - World Cup Athlete

Hi there,
My name is Benjamin Thomsen. 2 time winter Olympian and Canada's 2019 Audi athlete of the year.

My story

This will be my 10th competitive season on the Mens FIS  World Cup circuit.  Since 2010 I've accomplished great things such as a World Cup podium result,  competing in 2 Winter Olympic Games, Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018 and finishing 7th in Downhill at the 2019 FIS Ski World Championships.  With that said not every season or race has been as successful due to injuries.

After reconstructive surgery on my knee in 2016, forcing me to take the 2016/2017 racing year off for recovery which caused my world ranking to slip from 25th in the world to high '90s.  I am very proud to say I came back successfully in 2019 to finish 14th in the World Cup Downhill overall standings.  My best season to date.
Unfortunately, more knee issues and uncontrollable situations this last competitive season (2020) holding me back from meeting my full potential.  Alpine Canada did not select me to be a part of their team for this upcoming  season, so I have no choice to presume on my own.

The details – why a GoFundMe?

All funds generated from this GoFundMe campaign will go directly to paying all cost that will occur while training and competing on the world stage.
- Travel, training and accommodation
- Coaching and race representation
- Equipment and tuning supplies, such as race wax and or Race suits

I look forward to this challenge and opportunity of representing myself, my community and nation on the world stage!
