Eagle Scout Project Fundraising

Hi! My name is Ben Collier and I am a Life Scout with Troop 17 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, VA.  For my Eagle Scout project, I will be constructing a storage shed for Healing Strides of VA, a nonprofit organization providing therapy through the use of horses.  

Healing Strides was established in 1991 and currently has 22 acres with 2 large pastures, 3 paddocks, a round pen, a large enclosed arena, a Mental Health, Learning, and Coaching dedicated building, and an outdoor arena. The therapeutic riding programs have individualized horse interactions designed for all levels of participants with diagnosis' such as autism spectrum, neurological disorders, amputees, ADHD, MS, CP, Down Syndrome, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and many others. The unique relationship formed with a horse can lead to increased confidence, patience, and self-esteem. In recent years the organization has grown to house more than 20 horses, and with it the need for storage has grown as well.

Through my project I will help Healing Strides to accommodate more people into their growing organization to receive life changing experiences. The storage shed I will build measures 12'x12' and will be capable of housing much of the equipment in need of proper storage. Materials for the shed will cost $2,750, and I am hoping to complete fundraising as soon as possible to begin construction.
