ABOUT BELLA NORTHBURG
Bella Northburg has been dancing, since she was 3 years old, at Canyon Concert Ballet in Fort Collins, Colorado. For over ten years she has progressed to advanced levels in Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, and Jazz gernes of dance.
Bella has danced in CCB's Youth Ensemble for the past 7 years and has earned Platinum awards at various dance competitions, and has been awarded Junior Miss Legacy in 2014 at the Legacy Dance Competion. Also, she has performed in over eight Nutcracker performances for CCB's annual holiday Nutcracker show at the Lincoln Center. This past year she danced the role of Clara and was in featured dances of Snow and Flowers with CCB company members.
Bella's love for dance made her audition for School of American Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Houston Ballet's summer intensive programs to further her study of dance. After much debate, between going to Boston or Houston this summer, she chose the six week summer program at Houston Ballet Academy.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Since its founding in 1955, the Houston Ballet Academy has been providing the highest quality ballet training to aspiring dancers. Students will be completely immersed in dance for three to six weeks and will obtain invaluable training that will enrich and complement their previous dance education. The program provides an opportunity to train in a professional environment, where students can dance for six to eight hours a day, six days per week, learning from our world-class teachers and Houston Ballet company members.
INNOVATIVE AND CHALLENGING SUMMER CURRICULUM
During the summer, students spend six days a week focusing on their ballet technique, learning classical variations and repertory, and taking supplementary classes such as modern, jazz, character, musical theater, social dancing, film making, and drama. Not only will our students enjoy a rigorous dance schedule, their summer study will also be enhanced by courses in nutrition, pilates, and weight training.
The summer will finish with performances for the upper-level six-week program students showcasing the talent, artistry, and development of our participants.
EMPHASIS ON NUTRITION
The Summer Intensive Program will feature specially designed meals for dancers at the University of St. Thomas dorms. This fresh approach to dormitory dining will provide full synthesis between what the students are learning in their nutrition classes and the choices they make in the dining hall.
INSTRUCTORS
Houston Ballet Academy classes are taught by world-renowned instructors, including current and former Houston Ballet company dancers.
HOUSING OPTIONS
University of St. Thomas Chaperoned Dormitory:
Out of town students ages 12+ in levels 5-8 may reside in a chaperoned dormitory at the University of St. Thomas, Guinan Hall. With high-tech security, courtyards, wifi, and a cafeteria, Guinan is an ideal dormitory for summer students.
The Guinan room design includes balconies opening to beautifully landscaped courtyards, and a view of either campus or the Rothko Chapel. Rooms are double-occupancy with private bathrooms. All rooms have built-in closets and individually controlled thermostats. Rooms are furnished with two extra long twin beds, two desks, two chairs, and two chests of drawers.
A team of well-trained chaperones provide 24-hour supervision and transportation to and from the Academy.
WORLD CLASS FACILITIES
Come experience Houston Ballet's new six-story Center for Dance, the largest professional dance company facility in the United States. Designed with sustainable features, it boasts nine dance studios and a dance laboratory that seats 200 for presentations as well as rehearsals, all in the heart of downtown Houston's theater district.
