Bella's Summer Studies through Duke

Help Bella get to the Duke TIP program this summer!

Bella has been accepted into the Duke TIP Summers Studies program. All her hard work and  straight As are paying off!

Duke TIP Summer Studies Programs is a superb academic opportunity with a dynamic residential and social experience for seventh grade students who are among the top 5 percent of academically talented students in their grade level.

Bella will have the chance to experience challenging coursework and build friendships with other academically gifted peers during a three-week session where she will be challenged to think critically about herself, her work and the world. She has been accepted into a creative writing program, something she feels will greatly benefit her writing. Bella loves to write and has been writing since the 2nd grade. Writing comes naturally for her - she enjoys it, learns from it and has made it a big part of her everyday life. She writes poetry, short stories, daily thoughts and more. She just recently started working on her first book and hopes to finish it over the summer.

As parents, we are absolutely thrilled that Bella made it into this incredible program and that she really wants to go! Most kids would not want to give up three weeks of their summer for more school but Bella is excited. She works very hard at school and is always going above what is required. She had to take the ACT, with all the high school juniors, to qualify for this program. She went in a little nervous but came out energized. She scored in the 99% in the writing section! Writing courses for middle school aged kids are hard to find. We feel this program will offer her an incredible chance to learn, make new friends and have a mini college experience to better prepare her in the future.

Bella is bound and determined to raise the money she needs to attend this program. And, with the loss of Raphael's job, the expense is a lot for us to handle. Bella has started babysitting to raise money and plans to have several bake sales between now and when she leaves. Anything you can give to help her, is greatly appreciated. We promise, it is going to a great cause, one that will hopefully have a positive impact on her future.

Thank You!
