Bella-Mia ACL Surgery

Donation protected
On the night of Friday October 18, our smaller Pomeranian/ Corgi mix Trixi found herself staring into the many eyes of a pack of coyotes right behind our backyard fence. As Trixi slowly started to back away with her tail between her legs, the pack became more aggressive. Soon the wild howls of the coyotes became deafening, and our much bigger dog, pit-bull/mastiff mix Bella, realized what was going on and took action. Bella dashed off with all of her might into the abyss and directly towards the pack of hungry coyotes that were hoping to make a quick meal of Trixi. A single flashlight beam lit up the battle which was only separated by a short green chainlink fence.

While Bella was holding off the pack of coyotes from leaping the fence, we raced outside and grabbed Trixi and got her into the house. Once the pack realized Trixi was no longer an option for a meal, they retreated. We then went outside to praise Bella for potentially saving Trixi's life, she emerged from the darkness hopping on only three paws. Our moods drastically changed. Bella got closer and closer and collapsed at our feet, crying in agony. We managed to lift her up and carry her into the house where she stayed motionless.

Trixi was all excited and ran over to Bella and started licking to her face. Just as our moods had changed, Trixi's did too and her tail went down once again. From what seemed like an effort of trying to alert us that something was wrong, Trixi went to Bella's back leg and tried to get our attention like she does when she wants to be picked up. Bella did not move from that spot all night long and neither did Trixi, who slept right next to Bella to keep her company. It was interesting to see first hand how smart dogs truly are.

After a trip to the vet the next morning, they revealed that she had torn her ACL and that surgery was the only option for a large dog like Bella. Unfortunately no one can afford such an expensive surgery and it was my idea to turn towards the GoFundMe website in search of some assistance. With the surgery, X-ray, MRI costs, it was quoted to be approximately $3,500. Please help us provide Bella with the care that she needs!
