BEEREY

Dad's locked up. Daughter's knocked up. Mum's fed up.What next?WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT ?Beerey is the true story of one family's fight for justice, and to stand strong together. Honest, raw, funny and heartbreaking. Sue and Elle tell their stories of being caught up in the nightmare of a high profile drugs prosecution, during this verbatim, one act play that explores what happens to the family left behind in a wrongful conviction. It makes you wonder... if a member of your family is accused of a crime, will everyone believe that you're all guilty? How far would you go to prove your innocence?Whether convictions are rightful or, as in this case, wrongful - this is the reality faced by thousands of families across the U.K. every single day. More British children currently have a parent in prison than are on the Child Protection Register. There is currently no national system for these children to have access to that parent, or to get support for everything they experience as a result of that parent serving time. The real Beerey, Sue's husband and Elle's dad, Jon is serving 24yrs for a crime he maintains he did not and could not commit. The family are still fighting to get evidence to prove their innocence assessed by the Criminal Cases Review Commission. At the time of writing this process has been underway for over *two years* and there is still no court date set for the appeal to be heard.WHAT WE'RE DOING We are planning to tour Beerey, and already have venues booked in London, the Isle of Wight and at UK Fringes. All the cast and creative team are donating their time and skills for free, and none of the venues are charging a rental fee. The Beere family are bravely opening their lives up to audiences to raise awareness of the plight of many families in the UK in similar circumstances. All profits from the shows will go to www.criminalappeals.org.uk - the not for profit solution to the shortage of investigation and legal representation for criminal appeals.HOW YOU CAN HELPPlease will you donate to help us cover the costs of taking Beerey on tour? We need to transport actors, tech and set/props in order to tell this story. We want to be able to put on shows in non-traditional theatre spaces so people from all walks of life can hear this story - especially those who may be affected by the issues it explores. We want to produce information packs - something for everyone in the audience to take away explaining how they can help and where they can turn if (like the real Beerey family) they need help.We want to take up offers to promote the show on national and regional media, and travel (with the real family where possible) to the studios and offices where we can do this. Finally - please come to a show! You can follow us on Twitter @beerey_play for all the details of where we'll be and when.Thank you
