Becky Bonte Draper Medication Fund

Donation protected
Becky needs $1286 per month JUST FOR INSURANCE AND MEDICATION. These are post-transplant medications that she must take for the rest of her life. (read further for details). Every dollar helps!

I have been friends with Becky Bonte Draper since 1990. We have seen each other through many life changes. Becky was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 16 years old. For decades Becky managed her diabetes with blood testing, insulin injections, and diet restrictions. She was always up on the most current research and technology, including the use of an insulin pump and electronic tracking and communication of her blood tests. Incredibly, with Becky’s attention to her health, her system was able to remain functional for over 30 years. Unfortunately, after that time, Becky’s kidneys began to fail. By the beginning of 2013 her body was breaking down and the future did not look bright.

In June 2013 Becky was blessed with a kidney and pancreas transplant at the University of Minnesota hospital. The surgery went perfectly and Becky’s recovery was nothing short of a miracle. Over the past year Becky has been constantly monitored and has worked tirelessly with her medical team to design the perfect medicine combinations she will need to be on for the rest of her life.

Becky was able to finance the transplant surgery and the necessary follow-ups through her medical insurance and money she had saved. Becky’s disability payments are her only source of income. This fundraiser is specifically for raising money to assist Becky in paying for her medical insurance and medications. Without medical insurance, Becky would have to pay $2,635 per month just for the immunosuppressant drugs (one of many that she is required to take post-transplant). Becky pays $609 per month for medical insurance, $527 per month for the immunosuppressant medications (anti-rejection medications), plus another $150 per month for the additional medications required to keep her new kidney and pancreas functioning properly. On top of that, when Becky hits a certain amount of medical costs through her insurance, she is required to pay $4000 before the insurance will pay any more. These figures do not include deductibles, copays, or percentages that are also needed for medical care costs.

In a nutshell – Becky needs $1286 per month JUST FOR INSURANCE AND MEDICATION. And these are medications that she must take for the rest of her life. Becky has never asked for any assistance. Her friends and family have decided to have a fundraiser to assist with the medication expenses. ALL OF THE MONEY raised through this online fund WILL GO DIRECTLY TO BECKY in cash. The goal amount is equal to 6 months of medication costs plus the fee for running a campaign on GoFundMe.

If you are in the Western Wisconsin/Eastern Minnesota area the benefit will be held on July 27th from Noon to 6pm, at Pheasant Hills Golf Course (1025 170th Street, Hammond, WI). Please join us for golf, lunch, raffles, and a silent auction! See more informatiuon here: https://www.facebook.com/events/306550456177789/
