Volunteer Trip to Costa Rica

Donation protected
Hola amigos :)

As you may know, (or maybe you don't) I am planning to do some volunteer work abroad after this summer!

I can remember being a small child, looking at my mom's world map in awe.  Hoping I would be able to one day lose the confines of my small (yet wonderful) Alabamian world, I have always dreamt of travel.

So I decided to turn this fascination/hunger to learn about the far-away world into something more real and more attainable than a dream; I've made it a goal.

I will be graduating from Southern Union State Community College this summer with an Associate's degree in Science and plan to further my education in Sustainability with a minor in Spanish.  I plan to use my time between community college and attending a university doing something proactive and beneficial for my life and the environment around me. I feel that the time for travel is now.

With my passion for holistic living and helping others, I have decided to join WWOOF Costa Rica! WWOOFing is World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. So I will be trading my hard work for a place to stay on various farms around the country.  With this opportunity, I will learn about permaculture, organic farming, Spanish culture and communication, and much much more.

The duration of my trip is from late August through early December for a total of 117 days! I will join in the work-exchange program in three different locations.  One of them is near the Osa Peninsula (One of the most bio-diverse areas in the world) and I will be volunteering in a wildlife preserve and taking a course on Permaculture (the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient).

The second farm I will visit is called The Monkey Farm, near Liberia, Costa Rica. you can actually find them on Facebook. They are refuge for injured wildlife and an organic farm.  I will be helping with projects in permaculture, farming, animal care, and anything else they may need for 5 weeks.

The last place I will visit is a place that I intend to grow spiritually, as they offer yoga classes, meditation classes, and body clensing courses. I hope to find people here who encourage me to expand the borders of my mind and live a life on track with who I AM.

Between farms, I will stay in hostels, hotels, my hammock etc..
And hope to do some exploration in rural areas.

This is where your help is much appreciated.  Since I am doing volunteer work, I will have a discounted price for lodging, but I will have to cover the costs of transportation (including airplane tickets) and I will have to provide my own food and lodging between farms (not to mention I will have zero income).  I have been working HARD to raise money for this trip and would love the support of my friends and family. And in return, for everyone who donates or gives me good wishes, I will send them a postcard and let them know how it's going; so make sure you give me your mailing address :)

So with the help of hard work, good friends, supportive family, and the loving will of God, I think this trip is going to be life changing and will open doors into a beautiful future.

I honestly believe that when people volunteer their time, no matter if it is at your local food bank, state park, animal shelter, orphanage, etc.  You grow more into a conscious and humble human.  Compassion is what will protect the environment and the ones that live within it, and I am doing all that I can to lend a helping hand.

P.s... This site made me choose an amount of money to have as a "goal" but really, I'd be cool with $20... Every little bit helps.
