We’ve all known loved ones who have been touched by the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Its cruelty not only ravages those with the disease--erasing lifetimes of memories--but affects their caregivers as well.

To help raise research funds dedicated to finding a cure, a small group of friends is coordinating a fundraising motorcycle ride across the United States.

Four intrepid biker enthusiasts will start the journey from The Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 10 am. By the time we reach Capitol Records in Hollywood, California on June 26, we hope to have raised $100,000 from caring people across the country.

Alzheimer's is one of the most critical public health issues in America; it's our nation's most expensive disease and the sixth-leading cause of death.  We owe it to the more than 5.7 million Americans currently living with the disease, to their 16 million caregivers, and to the millions more who will be affected in the coming years, to leave no stone unturned so we can advance research toward treatments and a cure for this devastating disease.  The Alzheimer's Association is the largest, private, non-profit leading funder of global Alzheimer's disease and dementia research. Who We Are and Why Alzheimer’s?

Rick Levitan:

My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about 4 years ago. My siblings and I watched in distress as she gradually declined, failing to remember the names of her grandchildren, and losing recall of life’s daily routines and activities. Some that may have happened only a few days or hours in the past.

With difficulty over time, we came to realize she needed more care than any of us could provide around the clock. And then came the awful but necessary decision starkly staring us in the face—it was time to place her in assisted living memory care.

We still choose to remember the good times, her fun-loving ways, spontaneity, and sense of humor. Unfortunately, she has little left except the comfort of her surroundings that includes photos of her immediate and extended family--her parents, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchild. We recently celebrated her 89th birthday with her.

Patrick Connell:

I’ve seen first hand the effects Alzheimer’s has on an individual and their families. I grew up with an amazing mother who was a hospice nurse caring for those that needed it most,  Alzheimer’s patients. I’ve also had many friends, friends like Rick who have had this terrible disease attack their family. We hope to raise awareness and money as we ride across the country in support of those affected by this terrible disease. During the ride, I will be thinking of my mom and all those like her that spent their days helping all those affected by Alzheimer’s. We can make a difference. 


Billy Hillmuth III:

Alzheimer's is a disease this world could do without. Yes, we all wish we could find a cure for all diseases but to have a degenerative brain disease that affects your memory is no way to pass on your death bed with honor. Death is a debt that we all must pay one day, but when that day comes I pray that we will have a cure for this disease so that when it's time to go  I will be able to look back at my life, remembering what I did to bring joy, happiness, and how my action and my heart made a difference in this world.  I've witnessed seeing loved ones like my grandmother Eve go through this. She brought joy to my life, and she inspired me to be a good man. It broke my heart in the end because of our great friendship and love for one another, in her passing we were not able to truly tell each other one last time how much we loved each other and I was not able to tell her one last time how much she meant to me. On this ride, I will carry a picture of her inside my riding vest, and I hope that our ride will help inspire others to consider donating money to help one day put an end to this disease. 

Why “Let It Be…Over”, The Ride to Cure Alzheimer’s?

A lifelong Beatles fan, Rick Levitan was hooked at the age of 4, when he watched the Fab Four on Ed Sullivan with his older sister and brother. Beatle's records, albums, CDs and paraphernalia have been part of his life. His most masterful creation of Beatles memorabilia took shape when he decided to customize his 2002 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide into the one and only Beatles Bike.

The Beatles Bike has won first place honors at virtually every motorcycle show its entered. It’s a guaranteed “People’s Choice” trophy winner and is the most photographed bike of any class, bar none!

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of “Let It Be,” the last album released by The Beatles, Rick wanted to do something special. He came up with the idea of a cross country venture, celebrating the Beatles and drawing attention for the need to end Alzheimer’s once and for all. So, that’s how “Let It Be”…Over…The Ride to Cure Alzheimer’s was born.

The ride will take the bike to various parts of the country, raising money in communities large and small for the research arm of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Ride

The journey’s route will be posted on Facebook and GoFundMe. The ride itself will be captured in real-time and posted on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, with photos capturing each stop along the way.

Kickstands up will be from the Ed Sullivan Theatre in NYC and the first major stop will be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!
