GOAL: Raise $42,000 to support our program "EVERY CHILD DESERVES A BED" to provide more than 300 beds to children over the next 12 months
The mission of the Bay Area Furniture Bank, a Certified 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit, is to provide furniture, bedding, and household items to those in need within our community. Our clients are those who have a roof over their head but little, if anything, to furnish it; leaving them to live, eat, and sleep on the floor. In Silicon Valley, over 170,000 families locally make less than $35,000; they are the working poor who struggle to make ends meet. The markets we serve are low income families, homeless and veterans transitioning to supportive housing, victims of fire, domestic violence relocation victims, foster children aging out, refugees, and vets transitioning to civilian careers.
Having furniture makes a shelter a home, and we firmly believe that “every child deserves a bed”. Our commitment is to provide every child that is referred to us with a new bed-which for many will be their very first bed.
Our goal is to enable children to be able to focus on school and learning when they are allowed a good night’s rest in their own bed and a desk or table upon which to do homework. A furnished home gives kids a place to have friends come to play, a table for family dinner, and a home in which to build memories.
In our first five months of operation, we have provided 560 furniture items needed for 56 families consisting of 94 adults and 91 children. We estimate that by the end of the first full year of operations, we will serve well over 200 families with 325 children.
By helping us reach our $42,000 goal, we will be able to implement a program to provide a bed for every child referred to us for the next 12 months. We urge you to embrace this initiative and help us furnish the futures of those children and families we serve. We can't do it without your help.
