Dear all,
I am writing this email to ask for help.
About month ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer, melanoma of intestines. Unfortunately, it developed almost symptomless and was detected very late, at stage IV, which means that it has spread into other organs. After screening, it was established that cancer cells have the V600E mutation. Therefore, out of all available options in Russia, combination therapy with BRAF and MEK inhibitors
has the highest chance of therapeutic response. The medicine is available commercially and should be available through insurance. However, due to the absurd bureaucracy in Russia it will take some time! First we need to get referral from local oncology center to state office; then a committee will review the paperwork to decide approval of treatment; if approved by the state department this case will be passed to Moscow government office for yet another approval. Only after all this, might the medicine be provided by government insurance. As you can imagine, all this will require a lot of time. We DON'T have time! If my mom does not start therapy now she might not survive until the medicine will be provided.
Suggested treatment requires few session of radiation ( to remove metastasis in brain) and complex of two prescription drugs: TAFINLAR® (dabrafenib) + MEKINIST® (trametinib) or Vemurafenib (Zelboraf®) + Cobimetinib (Cotellic™)
Medication alone costs around 10-12000$ a month.
I am reaching out to ask for help and donate whatever you can. I want to obtain commercially available treatment and start treatment now while we are waiting on insurance and hospitals to get all paperwork figured out.
