A few weeks ago my Father, Barry, had his final cancer treatment. The family and I were, of course, blown away.
Dad has been messed up since 2011. He's the hardest working man I've ever known, and he's been at death's door like 5 times. Lyme disease nearly killed him, Hepatitis... then the man lost a foot at the shin due to poor bloodflow and trauma... all the while, unable to work.
Then, on top of it all, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma... and last winter, we spent Christmas in the hospital, when he lost his foot and came down with pnumonia. We thought that was it, yet... he made it, and recovered steadily over the past year until this Thanksgiving, when he had his last cancer treatment, and is expected to be cancer free.
It's been over six years. Discovering & defeating lyme, hepatitis, pneumonia, a lost limb, and cancer.
We never thought we'd see the day when he could be considered healthy once more, but somehow, impossibly, that day is here. No amount of text based emojis, smileys, or carefully crafted words can express how mind blowing that is to our family... the photo above, in which he is ringing the bell for his final treatment, is so blurry because mom was shaking so badly when she took it... but I don't think anyone can blame her. Six years takes a lot out of a woman, and she worked just as hard to help him make it.
All of that said, just brings up the hard part: Asking for help. As you can all imagine, six years worth of medical bills is no joke, and Barry certainly couldn't work during that time.
As it stands, we're, miraculously, looking at a number in the small thousands, before we're out from under all of the bills. Even $5 a person is incredibly helpful... they're trying to keep their house, and the debt collectors at bay (who've already started calling.)
