Barry McQuinn's Cancer Journey

Dear friends,
As some of you know, Barry has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The doctors have given him 6-12 months to live. We want Barry around for much longer than that!
Barry had been very unwell for many weeks prior to the diagnosis, had significant weight loss and was forced to stop working.
Chemotherapy and radiation treatments are not recommended for pancreatic cancer (regardless of whether Barry would’ve chosen to go down that road or not) as they are generally ineffective with a poor statistical outcome and horrible side effects. The only option offered to Barry by the doctors is surgery: Whipple’s Procedure. This procedure is not a cure and only 20% of patients make it to 5 years. It is also a difficult and complex surgery lasting 9 hours resulting in 50% of patients having serious complications and poor quality of health for many months or years after.
Barry has decided this is not how he wants to go with the time he has left.
So, the research for alternative treatments has begun.
Barry and his partner have been researching and embarking on a regime of lifestyle shifts, diet, herbs, supplements and alternative treatments. There are also some tests done in Germany that can measure the number of CTCs (circulating tumour cells) in the blood stream as well as monitor the effectiveness of cancer treatment and assess changes in aggressiveness.
These tests and treatments are very expensive and none are covered by any sort of subsidy. Now that Barry is in forced retirement, this is proving to be beyond his financial capacity.
That’s where you come in. Barry and his family would appreciate any financial support you can offer them. No amount is too small (or too big!). Your help will be greatly appreciated. And please, please help us spread the word as much as you can by sharing this campaign with as many people as possible and for as long as possible (this might be a long journey!).
