Help Barb Fight MDS/Leukemia!

In November of 2013, just short of three years after winning the battle against breast cancer, Barb found out she would have to fight to live yet again. Barb was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, or MDS, a rare blood cancer. The only true treatment for this disease is a risky stem cell transplant. Without treatment, Barb was only given months to live.

Barb decided she was ready for the fight of her life, and has chosen to have a transplant done. The team of experts in Pittsburgh have scheduled her transplant for April of 2014. Since her hometown is almost two hours away from her doctors, Barb must stay in Pittsburgh for several months post transplant. She and her 26 year old daughter and primary caregiver, Megan, will stay at Family House, just a few short blocks away from the hospital. The cost is roughly $60-75 a night, and is unfortunately not covered by insurance. Costs could topple $9,000+.

Since she works in a daycare, Barb will remain off work and without income for a year post transplant. Her immune system will be too new to fight off the common viruses in the outside world.
Your donations will help ease the burden this disease has placed. Funds will go toward rent at Family House, along with helping to pay for everyday expenses, such as food and gasoline.
