Bambina's Surgery Fund

Short Story:
Bambina, the world's most playful, crazy, fast, vocal, loving, and no limit ball catcher has a torn ACL/cruciate ligament. She needs surgery as soon as possible, followed by physical therapy, and perhaps a lifetime of restrictions. She has to have a TPLO, or tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy. In easier terms, a surgeon needs to go in her leg, break her bone, shift things around, and put some metal plates in there. At this time, we cannot afford the surgery, physical therapy, and vet costs. We are asking for your help to get Bambina "Beans" back on her paws again, and back to her beloved tennis ball. Thank you all for your time and consideration! Licks and Love, "HRH Bambina the Ballistic Ball Catcher", her father Kyle Collett, and her mother, Chloé Miller

LOOOOOONG STORY:

Bambina Miller was born on November 15th, 2005 in Davie, Florida. She was given the name Butterscotch by her breeder.  Little did I know while picking up my new best friend on a Sunday afternoon almost 9 years ago, that she would give me a lifetime of love, tears, exercise, anxiety, cuddles, and so much joy. She is the craziest and most hyper dog I have ever met, she will play ball and run until her paw pads are raw, she will tug on the rope until a tooth falls out, without even blinking an eye. It's tough to bring her in public to play because she just gets so excited, she will scream like a hyena when you don't throw her ball or give her attention. She has no stop button, and is the most full of life animal I have ever met. Needless to say, she's not very lady like but I quickly realized & accepted that I had a muscle ball athlete as a daughter. What's so special about my girl, is that just as hard as she plays, she loves. She snuggles her way into our arms at night, she'll put her head on your neck and one of her arms over your chest, like a loving child. She loves just as extremely as she plays ball, her affection is just as intense as her energy. Did I mention the kisses? She kisses with a vengeance and no regrets. She will jump several feet just to get a lick on someone's chin. She will kiss your face and nose until it is raw, if you let her. Fast-forward eight years, "she will calm down as she gets older" they said, but to my surprise, she is just as fast, crazy, and strong as she ever was. I never thought anything could happen to my Bambina, not my tough girl. Bambina has a brother, he is a Newfoundland named Grizz Lee Collett. They are quite the pair and have so much fun together. She really keeps him young and active which we are so grateful for. On an average Sunday, we played ball in the backyard like many times before. On her last run, she came back with her foot tucked up. She did not put pressure on the foot at all. We brought her to her vet on 11/10/14 and they knew right away, she had a torn ACL/ cruciate ligament, read more here: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2084&aid=474. She needs surgery, followed by physical therapy, and a lifetime of restrictions. I was told that there is a high chance that her other leg will go out soon after this leg is fixed up. She has to have a TPLO, or tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy. In easier terms, they will have to go in, break her bone, shift things around, and put some metal plates in her leg. You can read more about that here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibial-plateau-leveling_osteotomy

I tried to keep it together, my vet said that this was an athlete's injury and it happens to football players all the time. I guess Bambina is a football player in her own way. She has never had any issues, nor undergone any type of aniesthesia, she has never even hurt herself. The money was the last thing on my mind, all I kept thinking about was her in surgery, would it be something that will limit her for life? Will these plates in her leg make it hard for her to be free? Will she make it out of the surgery okay? Will she have a full recovery and get back to chasing a ball and snuggling in bed again? Will she ever be the same?

After I dealt with the initial greif and fear, I've chosen to look forward.  I believe that she will make a full recovery. I will do everything in my power to give her the best life possible and continue to let my best friend be her crazy self. I started looking online at grants, loans, charities, etc. Looking for something that would help make this procedure possible and soon. I prayed and thought to myself, there has to be a way to make this work. Surely I can't be the only young, loving pet mother who cannot afford a major surgery? This may or may not change a lot of things in her future but we will adapt. I only wish I was as strong as my sweet "Beans". I realize that this will be more painful for us than for her, and that this is a very common injury and surgery. I thought, it couldn't hurt to create a fund for my little girl. Maybe there would be people out there that have been in my position. No matter what, we will find a way to make it work. I thank you all for your time, reading her story, and for your consideration. Beans is my best friend, our strongest warrior, my most loving companion, she is my everything. I don't remember one person meeting Bambina and not loving her. She is so full of love, energy, and light & she brings so much good into this world. I can't wait to see her back on her paws (or up high, she catches almost every ball we throw in mid air) and getting back to what she loves most, her precious tennis ball.
