Help turn self-published novel into audiobook!

Can you help make my audiobook dream a reality?

Hello, my name is Jennifer Duke and in 2020 I fulfilled my goal of self-publishing my first novel, Back to the Bonnet. I absolutely loved writing it!

As all self-published writers do, I invested a lot into creating and publishing my book. I did this whilst working in childcare and housekeeping jobs (and navigating lockdown like most of the rest of the world) and, whilst Back to the Bonnet has gained some lovely reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, I’m not great at the marketing side of things, so sales have been rather slow.

However, I felt particularly encouraged after receiving positive feedback from actress Lucy Briers. Talented star of stage and screen, Lucy Briers played Mary Bennet in the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. …I should probably say at this point that the protagonist of Back to the Bonnet is this same Mary Bennet, the often overlooked middle daughter of Jane Austen’s Bennet family. In my comical reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, Mary inherits a magical bonnet which allows her to travel in time and orchestrate events as she sees fit. (Spoiler alert… It doesn’t always go according to plan!) …I was delighted to hear from Lucy Briers who told me that she really enjoyed the novel, that it made her laugh out loud often as she read it and that, if it were to be made into an audiobook some day, she would love to narrate it.

Lucy Briers

Personally, I love audiobooks. I think there’s something so comforting about hearing someone tell a story, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I would be if Back to the Bonnet could take this next step in its evolution. For the audiobook version to become a reality, I need to raise the funds for the work of the voice talent, audio director/producer and sound editor. I have an amazing team of experienced professionals - including the wonderful Lucy Briers as the voice talent - who are happy to take on the work of creating this. All I need now are the financial resources to make it happen. This project will come in at around £4,180.

My funding plan…

I hope to raise as much of the £4,180 as possible in 2022 so that Back to the Bonnet  can be made into an audiobook. If the target isn’t met, the project will still go ahead and all donations will be made good use of as I will acquire a loan for the rest. Obviously, the less I have to borrow from the bank the better.

In the possible event of raising more than the target amount, I plan to donate any money not needed for the audiobook project to TreeSisters, a charity I support for the planting of trees in the tropics.

However much this crowdfunder raises, I am truly grateful for the generosity of my kind patrons, both those who can donate some money and those who had the patience to read this far and simply gift me their good wishes.

…For more info about my work, you can visit these Amazon/Goodreads pages. I’m currently working on a fantasy series set in Paleolithic times and I also have plans to write a standalone novel - a post-world war two romantic drama.
