John & Tina are "Taking BJJ to Northern Uganda"! We are raising funds to establish a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training center in Gulu, Uganda.
This is not a 1 year or short term project. The goal is not only to have a training facility for BJJ to launch the art in the region, but we are starting a longterm business that will be self-sustaining and capable of generating income for the Africans we work with. This is NOT a sponsorship program! We are starting a functioning business. Will it support us? No, but it will support Ugandans. After a year of building up, the school will be able to fund itself AND pay a salary to future Ugandan instructors.
We need your help to do this! Together it is possible. We are willing to go, but we need your help to do so. Would you help us make a longterm difference in these lives?
Funds are needed for: start-up costs, rent of facility, monthly/annual expenses, supplies, transport of mats, etc. We need to secure a location for training and transport of mats and supplies.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is the world's fastest growing sport. Those in Northern Uganda have not had the opportunity to train this sport until the summer of 2017. John & Tina Koeshall traveled to Gulu, Uganda in May 2017. After arriving, guys started asking John, "What martial art can you teach us?"
The next question was, "Can you train us?"
Of course, the answer was "Yes!".
Day 1: 3 students
Day 4: 8 students
Day 8: 16 students
Day 9-45: the class averaged 25-30 students
We are excited to return to Gulu, Uganda in January 2018 to establish a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training center. BJJ teaches self-defense, confidence, patience, discipline, builds relationships and community, and it creates "brotherhood".
Partner with us as we relocate from the US to Gulu, Uganda to open a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training center in the northern region. *Donations are tax deductible.
