Burren Chernobyl Project 2019 Trip

Donation protected
The Burren Chernobyl Project (BCP) was established in 1993 to help with the child victims of the fallout from the Chernobyl reactor explosion.  26 years later, many projects have been carried out to assist the children and their families who are enduring the effects of exposure to radiation and the other social and economic problems facing them in Belarus.

Gorodishche 'Internat' (asylum) is home to 220 children and young adults with special needs and illnesses. It is just one of the many institutions that receives support from BCP, who have been working tirelessly on various projects to enhance the lives of these children.

Amongst other things, we have done the following:
- Set up Nutritional Programmes
-  Provide Pampers at a cost of Euro 1,000 per month
- Set up a Physiotherapy Programme.
-Set up a Medical Aid Programme.
-Sent many lorry loads of Humanitarian Aid.
-Provided wheelchairs, walking aids, crutches, standers.
-Provided kitchen equipment.
-Spent $10,000 on doors and windows
-Provided beds, bed linen and pillows for each child.
- Provided headstones for the children's graves at the local cemetery.

Burren Chernobyl continues to support Gorodishche Orphanage right up to the present day with help continuing to provide improvement, helping to support the staff now employed there, providing safe veranda shelters for time spent outdoors in the summer, and sending many volunteers every summer to organize Summer Camp activities for everyone.  We are currently building an independent living house for older and more well-able young adults.

Katie's Testament

My name is Katie Hourigan and for the past few years I have been travelling to the Gorodishche Orphanage in Belarus as part of the Burren Chernobyl Project's Volunteer Groups.
Donations are spent directly in the Gorodishche Orphanage on whatever is a top priority requirement at the time, whether it be shoes, clothes, food, etc.

It's incredibly difficult to describe how amazing these children are through words. The love they have to give is indispensable. For a child who’s life is pretty much predetermined to show the kindness, respect and gratitude that these children do, they certainly teach us a lot about life in such a short space of time. As volunteers, we often find ourselves gaining more than we give.

I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people while fundraising in previous years. I seriously cannot thank everyone who has donated enough.

If you have any questions about Gorodishche, BCP or volunteering in Belarus, please feel free to message me.

I would like to thank you in advance for any donations. Share the link. Spread the word.  Be Happy.
