Support B-CC Gun Violence Memorial

We are the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Branch of Moco Students for Gun Control,  a network of students across 32 different schools in the metropolitan area working to unite students through the common goal of combating the epidemic of gun violence within our schools and communities. We formed a week after the Parkland shooting, and organized the March 14th demonstration in front of the White House and rally at the Capitol, where over 3,000 students came to demand common sense gun legislation. Our end goal, of course, is to pressure legislators into passing the necessary bills to reduce and eventually eliminate the risk of school shootings. Everyone at B-CC is extremely passionate about this issue, and we decided to kick our chapter off with an interactive art activism project.

This project, to be debuted on April 20th (the 19th anniversary of the tragic shooting at Columbine High School), aims to commemorate the child victims of gun violence. We plan to organize an art installation to be displayed on the B-CC lawn on that day. The installation will feature 100+ t-shirts with the names of child victims of gun violence on the front, and their age on the back. The t-shirts will be attached to stakes and planted in the ground, facing East-West Highway so that cars driving by can see, as well as B-CC students. We were inspired by the gun violence prevention group at Temple Sinai, which successfully pulled together a similar t-shirt installation featuring victims of gun homicide. As a new organization, we lack the funds to buy the materials necessary to execute such a meaningful project.  We appreciate all donations that will make this project possible!  Any funds raised beyond the cost of this project will go towards other MoCo Students for Gun Control initiatives.
