BASIC-Wellness Kenya

BACKGROUND
Positive Life Kenya (formerly Living Positive Mlolongo) is an organization that started as a small Community Based Organization in 2010 i​n Mlolongo to support women and children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Due to the demand for additional services in other areas outside of Mlolongo, Positive Life Kenya (PLK) obtained official status as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This change allowed PLK to obtain a tax exemption status and continue expanding efforts to reach out to as many families as possible.  Today, PLK serves more than 300 women and children in five different informal settlements around Mlolongo and Athi River.

PLK has already rapidly grown to meet the needs of their community with various interventions including:
1. Women Economic Empowerment Program (WEEP)
2. Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support- Kiotani and Tumaini Schools
3. Community Support and Outreach- Group counseling, education sessions, support for women and children living with HIV

FUNDRAISER GOAL
In order to better serve the community and improve outreach, PLK has found a plot of land in Kicheko, the main community that they serve.   It will be the future office, school, and medical clinic of this organization. 

Funds must be raised by April 1st  to officially secure this land.  



Each donation, no matter how small, will be put towards purchase of this land.  Owning land in Kicheko, will cut the operating budget of PLK because they will no longer have to pay rent for their office and school space.  It will allow them to put more funding into their various outreach projects.  Most importantly, it will give them quick access to a community in need by being located right in the heart of it.


PLK has changed my life and view on global health.  I have seen the influence they have on communities like Kicheko and the lives they have saved first hand. I know that having a piece of land on the front lines will take their ability to effect change to the next level.
