Build A Miracle

Recently, Claire, Louise, and I took a trip down to Tijuana, Mexico to help build houses with an organization called Build a Miracle. It was an amazing experience, and really opened our eyes to the needs of these people who deserve a much better life than they have. Some of the things that really amazed us was the sense of community, and the genuine happiness and motivation of these people. When we are helping to build the houses, the people in the community help out in the process. We were all working together, and Build A Miracle has really helped to build this unity and inspiring sense of community. We were also struck by the way these people can be so happy, when they have almost nothing. They were happy just to have us down there, working with them. You could tell that they all looked forward to the visits from the Build A Miracle organization. They were constantly expressing their gratitude to us, and saying that with our help, they felt that they had a second chance. They were motivated to go to college, get a job, and achieve their dreams. With the help of Build A Miracle, all of these kind, deserving, and hard-working people were given a second chance at a better life. This experience was so inspiring in so many ways.

At the end of our day, we had the opportunity to see two new houses being revealed to their families. At the last one, Claire was standing inside taking pictures, and when the little boy walked into his new bedroom with his own real bed and new toys, he turned around with tears in his eyes, and grabbed Claire, giving her a huge hug while crying because of his immense amount of joy and gratitude. This made us realize how a simple house can impact someone’s life so tremendously and that by helping in Mexico, we could help to give these deserving people a safe place of their own to live a better life. The three of us agreed that this was our favorite part of the trip, and that is why we want to give more people this same opportunity.

A story from Claire and Louise:
We had the opportunity to go down to Mexico when we were little. We went down for Christmas one year and Julianne who is our mom’s best friend who started the organization wanted us to meet a family. When we met them the mom grabbed us and gave us a huge hug. We were so confused because we were only about 6 years old and we didn’t know this person. Julianne then explained to us that a few days before that the woman's two daughters died in a mud slide because they did not have a strong enough home to protect them. This broke our hearts and really opened up our eyes to how hard their lives are. This is why we want to help these people so that these tragedies do not happen to these wonderful people with such huge hearts that do not deserve this.
