Aunt Marge Hurricane Irma Fund

Donation protected

On September 7th and 8th, 2017, Hurricane Irma made her mark on the “Beautiful by Nature” Turks and Caicos Islands; an experience my family and I will never forget.

One family member in particular, my Aunt Marge, who lost her home as a result of this. Aunt Marge also takes care of my 89 year old Grandmother who lives with her and this unfortunate situation has left them both displaced. Her and my Grandmother stayed at a family member’s house during Hurricane Irma as her house is located near the beach and thought it would be safer to be more inland. As everyone throughout the islands, they were preparing for the worst and hoping and praying for the best. But never thinking she would go back to her home after Irma passed, only to find the roof COMPLETELY gone and nowhere to be found. (I have uploaded pictures). Even though we saw reports that no lives were lost, Grand Turk lost all communication and cell towers during the storm so my family and I didn’t get to hear anything from her and Ma and didn’t know the extent of the damages for almost a week. She was able to salvage some of her and my Grandma’s clothing but for the most part, everything is lost. Then exactly two weeks later, Hurricane Maria came for round two creating more devastation to Grand Turk, leaving anything else she may have still been able to salvage no longer possible.

Anyone who knows me, knows the love I have for Aunt Marge and Ma runs deep. My Aunt has always been a second mom to me and my siblings and is my mom’s best friend. She is one of the most selfless people I know, always willing to help where she can and putting others before herself.

My family and I have decided to create this GoFundMe to help my Aunt rebuild her home as we have had so many awesome and caring people in our lives reach out and ask us how they can help. She doesn’t have any insurance on her house making it that much more difficult to rebuild. Aunt Marge and Ma have been in such high spirits despite the circumstances and are so very grateful for life, and also for the housing situation they temporarily have. But there’s nothing like being back in the comfort of your own home and that is our goal for them. We understand that there are many people who are in need of help at this time and know that everyone is not in a position to help. If you are able, it would mean so much to us. If you are not able, we understand and it would mean just as much if you could share this in case you know someone who is able.

The Turks and Caicos Government has temporarily lifted duty fees on building materials shipped into the country only for a short period of time; therefore we are trying to raise what we can and start the rebuilding process for Aunt Marge as soon as possible. Our plan is to help wherever we can throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands with any remaining funds we raise. Throughout this journey we will be sure to give updates as often as we can.

There aren’t enough words to express the appreciation we have for our friends and family members who have reached out with concern and support during this time.

From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful to have people like you in our lives.

Tasia and family

Please note that all funds will be used for the sole purpose of rebuilding (i.e. building materials, labor, etc.).
All receipts will be uploaded throughout the rebuilding process.

All funds will be withdrawn by Marge's niece Tasia on her behalf. The funds used for building materials will have to be purchased by her family in the US and shipped to her in Turks and Caicos. All funds for labor will be given to directly to her to pay the laborers.
