The Auggiepalooza Project is the story of love, adventure and joy in the face of a debilitating and aggressive terminal illness. Just a few short years ago a genetic test revealed that, August Gianpiero King Chinchilla now 10 years old, had Early Onset Juvenile Huntington's Disease (JHD), an extremely rare and fatal hereditary neurodegenerative condition. He inherited the disease from his father, Michael Angelo Chinchilla, who is currently hospitalized and incapacitated. Huntington’s Disease= ALS + Parkinson’s Disease + Alzheimers x 1000. Everyday is a race against JHD as it removes his ability to walk, talk, move, play and think. It doesn’t take rocket science or world events to notice that our time here on this planet is fragile, brutal and often, too short……but it is also incredibly beautiful.
When August learned he had the disease and was asked if there was anything special he wanted to do or see, his answer was EVERYTHING! He came up with what we now refer to as his “Baby Bucket List”. August has decided to be the hero of his own personal tale that documents the resilience of the human spirit. And from that, The Auggiepalooza Project was created.
The Auggiepalooza Project is a way for family, friends and the community to participate and contribute to the Baby Bucket List and any ongoing Early Onset Juvenile Huntington's Research for August Gianpiero King Chinchilla. Funds raised through the Auggiepalooza project allows August's family and close friends to spend valuable and precious remaining time together doing all of his favorite things. Contributions cover travel costs, inependent research projects and ease financial and medical challenges that have been building over the past six years, and will also cover end-of life expenses. Since beginning in 2015, some Baby Bucket List items have already been completed and August has added more, some simple, some not. Some list items are easy and inexpensive. Some are over the top and may not be possible. Some are legal.....with permits. Some are not. All are his own ideas, with those he loves working hard to complete as many as possible before he leaves this earth, ensuring he has as much fun as he possibly can, get all the good times til there's no time left.
The Auggiepalooza Project is August’s way of leaving this world a better place than when he arrived in it. Striving to teach us everyday that to triumph over death and illness, all you need is courage and hope. That perhaps by embracing life, taking nothing for granted, thinking bigger and dreaming beyond our wildest dreams that anything can be possible for any of us. Hopefully, his story can inspire everyone to grab every second of magic and catch as many feels this life has to offer. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
