Urgent Help Astillero Storm Victims

Donation protected
We have been investors and neighbors in the rural fishing village of El Astillero and the nearby Chacocente Wildlife Refuge in Nicaragua. The area is remote, poor and underdeveloped, and has now been severly impacted by Tropical Storm Nate.  Despite the government's warnings and the locals' best efforts to prepare, the night time  flooding and intense winds were  too much for many to cope with and they have been devastated by this storm.

The roads to Astillero and Chacocente have been badly damaged, and thousands of trees have fallen across roads and in the Refuge.  Communication is sparse, the area is completely without electricity, and the pumps for Astillero's town well have been damaged leaving the entire community with no water.

Some families have lost everything, even their homes, and are living in the town's church and eating dinners cooked by ourselves and the community.

An enormous amount of driftwood has been deposited on all the beaches, including the mass turtle nesting beach of Chacocente (one of the 7 most important turtle nesting beaches in the world).  Right now, in the peak of turtle nesting season, it is impossible for these endangered mother turtles to make their nests, or for the baby turtles to hatch from below and make their way to the ocean. Each month that the turtles can't nest represents approximatelys 6,000 nests and 150,000 baby turtles, so please help us move as quickly as possible.

In addition to the great efforts by the local people, businesses, and church to help those in need and to shelter the families that lost everything, much more needs to be done.  Your donation will help us fill an urgent need for drinking water, food, cleaning supplies, and essentials for the people of El Astillero; shelter for those that have lost their homes; the removal of fallen trees reestablishing access for local communities; and the disposal of debris from the sea turtle mass nesting beach as soon as possible.

Every dollar we receive will go to mitigate the social and environmental catastrophe that these people face, and will be carefully spent for maximum impact on the neediest people.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for the difference you make in this world.

P.S. Please donate NOW. This is a one-time request for immediate assistance for the most severely impacted. The need is real and urgent, so please act quickly.

The note below has been added for the gofundme team: there seems to be confusion about this campaign on your part.  It has nothing to do with the tragic events of Las Vegas, and is actually set up to provide aid to very poor people in rural communities of Nicaragua.  I, Stefan Byramji, am part owner of and work for LCI Partnership (Land Conservation & Investment).  We own over 6,000 acres in the area, have been working in the area for over 15 years and have deep ties to and care for the people there.  We will be spending this money through our Nicaraguan subsidiary LCI Nicaragua S.A. and will keep a detailed account of all money spent.  We will not be keeping any of this money or using it for our own purposes.  These people need everything: food, water, clothes, diapers, milk, formula, beds, shelter, electricity repaired, pumping equipment for the town well to be repaired, trees cleared from roads to allow more aid to get to the rural communities and more.
