Ashley Stone's Medical Journey

Spende geschützt
Thank you for taking time to read and understand the story of Ashley & Corey Stone, their children and their current challenge.

On Oct 2, Ashley had a planned day surgery to remove a few cysts in her lower body. Everything appeared to have gone well and they were discharged later that day.

On their travels home from Vancouver an episode occurred that caused Corey to need to call 911. It resulted in Ashley being in the emergency room at Chilliwack General Hospital with extremely limited use of her arms and paralysis in her legs.

The decision was quickly made to have her admitted in to Royal Columbian Hospital under the care of their neurology department.

Slowly over the first few weeks, amidst the tests, medications and time Ashley began gaining more strength in her upper body though her lower body remained in a fully paralyzed state.

To date we are thankful to report that she has slowly begun gaining back the mobility in her legs. This allows her to do minimal shuffle/walking with the assistance of a walker and physical support.

At the moment the cause of Ashley's symptoms remain unclear. While her medical team expect that she'll eventually make a full recovery the time line for that is unknown. Inflammation, infection and the continued lack of mobility at this time have her remaining in Royal Columbian Hospital.

Since the day of the surgery and following incident, either Corey, or Ashley’s Mom, Jackie have had to stay with Ashley 24/7. That will continue for the weeks or months ahead, regardless of whether she's in hospital, rehab or even at home due to her physical needs.

They have had to be there for bed rolls and transfers, because of severe allergies that limit her food & medication they've also had to prepare & help her with meals and help ensure hospital staff is able to provide safe medication. Jackie & Corey have to be able to assist in the nights with washroom trips, position changes etc. of which are crucial pieces for her safety, continued care and eventual recovery.

This means that Corey has had to take and will continue having to take substantial time off of work. (We are all very grateful for the company he works for and their understanding through this time), Ashley has not been able to work and has no confirmed timeline as to what it will take for complete recovery meaning she will not be able to work for several weeks or months to come.

Having Jackie and Corey trade off in care for Ashley means that either of them are back home taking care of their girls, Bethany & Audrey. If you know the Stones you'll also know that this includes helping care for some additional health challenges Audrey faces as well.

The loss of income from Ashley being unable to work, Corey needing to take time off work, the trips back & forth to Vancouver & cost of medications (Due to allergies Ashley requires specialized medication that isn't covered in hospital) have begun to create a financial strain. The upcoming medications, treatments, future physio, rehab & required home care support once she is able to leave the hospital will continue to increase the financial burden.

After much prayer, discussion with Ashley and Corey about the needs that they have and will continue to have, they have hesitantly consented to allow fund raising efforts on their behalf to take place.

The only way that they would consent to this effort was if we agreed to share the following with everyone.

First of all, they NEED to extend their intense gratitude and thanks for the kind, caring hearts that have be willing to help them through this time. They're also so thankful for & blessed by your prayers and emotional support during this time.

Most importantly they want you to know that should they not need the full amount raised once Ashley is back to her new normal, ANY and ALL excess funds will be passed on to someone else in need at that time.

Please know as a family that they are all thankful for your kindness and truly have no words to express to you their overwhelming gratitude for help during this very hard time.
