As I sit here creating this page for my girl friend Ashley I am watching her struggle with the pain from her diseases. It’s very difficult knowing there’s nothing I can do take the pain away. I see what she goes through on a daily basis and it’s amazing how strong she is and has to be to make it through each day. She still stays very positive throughout everything. One day in the hospital the severity of her disease hit me hard. The surgeon told her she had to get transfered to another hospital because they were more specialized to do the surgery she nedded. He was very nervous and scared to do the surgery because this time she may not make it off the operating table. It was very scary thing to hear.

Ashley suffers from Mitochondrial Disease. The cells in her body die off eventually causing her organs to shut down. Her stomach has aleady shut down. She also has Gastroparesis and POTS/dysautonmia do to her disease. She gets dizzy and needs to sit down only after only about 5 mintues of standing. Ashley’s muscles are now deteriating to the point where she needs a scooter or wheelchair to get around. She does not have a handicap accessible ramp for her house. A handicap accedssible ramp would improve her qualitly of life by giving her the freedom to leave her house without worry or stress. All she has now are old metal stairs that are very unsafe for her to use.

There is no cure for her disease and illnesses. Ashley takes many medications and J-Tube feeds everyday to keep her health stable but we know eventually it will get worse.

I hope creating this page will help by getting her a new pourch with a ramp. Also alleviate some of her financial struggles from the many medications she has to pay for and doctor appointments she has to go to. Ashley travels to New York City every two to three months for one of her Doctor’s appointments. That trip alone cost $600 to $700. Her monthly cost for medications cost about $700 out of pocket. That's a lot to handle for one person. It would be great to take at least one worry off her plate. She already has to deal with too much.
