Over the past several months my
twin-sister, Ashley has been working with a team of specialists at
Mayo Clinic, undergoing aggressive testing in regard to a very rare and serious
auto-immune disease. Unfortunately, due to the unknowns and complexities of her
illness, the Doctors have been unable to determine how to treat it.
The disease has caused Ashley to experience extremely painful and life threatening symptoms. At this point, it has inhibited her from being able to work or help take care of her 4 month old daughter.
In addition the auto-immune disease, Ashley was also diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. On November 24th, she underwent a lobectomy, in which 1/2 of her thyroid was removed. Although the cancer was an entirely separate condition from her auto-immune disease, it has adversely affected her overall health.
Ashley is continuing to undergo hospitalizations and testing in hopes that Doctors will be able to find some type of resolution. Even in the midst of these struggles, she has shown more strength and faith than one could imagine.
We are in the process of organizing a benefit to help raise money for Ashley and Jason's mounting medical bills. We hope that you will be able to attend and thank you for all of your prayers and support during this difficult time. (More details to come).
