My Story
My name is Ashleigh Awusie. I am a Ghanaian and Panamanian American actress and teaching artist from Harlem.
I have just been accepted into the Master of Arts program in Acting for Stage, Screen and Radio at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, but I need your help!
For over 10 years I have wanted to study, live and perform abroad, and now is my chance. As an undergrad, I chose to graduate early to focus on family. It was the right choice at that time. My Nana got to see me before passing away, my single mother (who deserves the universe) was able to save money and I graduated with honors. Over the years I have continued to train, devise and perform professionally throughout the United States. As a teacher I have had the honor of using my craft to entertain, educate and empower children in transitional homes, hospitals, high schools and conservatories across New York.
The course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will literally force me out of my comfort zone; challenging my artistry, expanding my network globally and propelling me to new heights as a person. I tell my students,"Be great! Create on purpose" and it's important that I set the example. Upon completion I will return home a highly trained, well-rounded actress and teacher with a catalog of original works to inspire my community.
As an international student I must have $15,000 (half of tuition) by fall enrollment. For months I have been helping to care for my father diagnosed with dementia, and although I have been working tirelessly, after making initial school deposits this spring I will be well out of funds.
Please give $125 toward tuition, roughly the price of a NYC monthly metro card, to help turn my dream in to a reality.
