As my Bat Mitzvah and 13th birthday approaches I have been working on ideas to give back to my community. As you well know my passion is best expressed through art. So as my
mitzvah project, I will be donating art supplies and volunteering my time to a organization called the Lotus House.
So what is the Lotus House? It is a non-denominational, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of poor, disadvantaged and homeless women, youth and children by ensuring that they have the sanctuary, support, education and resources needed to heal, grow, and blossom into who they were truly meant to be.
It first caught my eye by its name. A lotus is best described as a person’s path in life. The meaning of the lotus flower is one of a reminder to always believe in ourselves no matter what our circumstances may be, because no matter how dark and murky the outside may seem, perfection is already within us. We just have to trust ourselves, believe in our own beauty and goodness, and we will, without doubt, blossom into the light. And this is what the lotus house has done for women and children within our community.
Why this organization is important to me is because it gives woman and children the opportunity’s for a second chance in life by giving them the support they need. With your contributions, I will be donating art supplies to help the art program which allows creativity and freedom of expression. I am looking forward to spending time teaching art and seeing it through the eyes of others.
