LIVERPOOL-$ for Arlyn's Liver Transplant

Donation protected

Arlyn first learned he had a liver disorder about 27 years ago that was later diagnosed as Primary Sclerosing Colangitis
("PSC"). "PSC is a liver disease where the bile ducts and the tissues around them become inflamed. As the disease progresses, the scar tissue distorts the liver, disrupts blood flow through the liver and interferes with its normal functions." PSC is a slow progressing disease, with no known origin or cure.

In the last 4 years, Arlyn's PSC has progressed to the point of an acceleration of symptoms and liver malfunction. Some of those symptoms include fatigue, itching, jaundice, high cholesterol and episodes of fever and chills. It is now time to take steps toward initiating a liver transplant to regain his quality of life. Along with the bile ducts malfunctioning, Arlyn's liver has developed an aneurism nearly the size of the complete right lobe of his liver. Because of the unpredictability of aneurisms, this complication has bumped him up on the transplant list and increased the urgency of having the transplant surgery.

Arlyn and Nyla's son, Austin - age 31, has offered to donate part of his liver to Arlyn. Austin went through a week of testing in May to determine if he is a good match. It appears that he is a match, so Arlyn's complete liver will be removed, but 60% of Austin's. If all goes well, both of their livers will be working properly just after the surgery. After approximately 6-8 weeks, both Arlyn and Austin should again have fully functioning livers. Austin can carry on with his life as normal and return to work within 6-8 weeks. For Arlyn, a successful liver transplant will vastly improve his quality of life; though he will be on a good number of anti-rejection medications the rest of his life. He will have to remain in Arizona near the hospital for checkups and blood tests to make sure no infections are detected. He should be able to return to Montana after 6-8 weeks.

The doctors at Mayo Clinic in Arizona have said this transplant will cost approximately ¼ million dollars ($250,000) to perform.
That's where all of you come in. We are setting up this GOFUNDME account in hopes that you might help with whatever you are willing and able to give in order to help them pay this debt, cover travel expenses, as well as meet all other financial obligations during their stay in Arizona. We humbly request your help and with abundant gratefulness, say "THANK YOU" for whatever you are willing and able to give.
