Annie's Fight

Donation protected
This is our dearest aunt, Annie Khatchadourian, with her four children - Annmarie Kazorian, Caroline Badalian, Sam Khachadourian, and Lucy Hernandez. Having tragically lost her then 49-year old husband to a rare infection when she was only 42 years old, Annie raised her children on her own, never faltering from her immense faith in God. In addition to her children, Annie has also raised her precious grandchildren, Ellie and Jonah, and has been looking forward to helping raise her third grandchild who's set to arrive in February 2020.  To say the very least, Annie has been the backbone of the Khatchadourian family and the pillar of strength, love, and grace.  A day wouldn’t go by without her kids and grandkids meeting at her house to enjoy each other’s company, as well as Annie’s love-filled, home-cooked meals.

In August of this year, Annie suddenly developed a lisp.  After visiting with a few doctors and specialists and being placed on a few rounds of antibiotics, Annie's condition didn't improve.  In October 2019, her condition worsened.  While her entire family and extended family were over at her house, Annie became increasingly dazed, with a blank stare in her eyes.  Her lisp turned into a slur and the left side of her mouth began to droop.  Concerned that she may be having a stroke, her children rushed her to the emergency room.  After initially being told that this could be a case of Bell's Palsy or a stroke, the Khatchadourian family received devastating news: that the MRI images indicated that she had a glioblastoma - an aggressive brain tumor - the prognosis of which was anywhere from 12-18 months, with treatment.

By the time Annie was transferred to Providence St. John's hospital for surgery, the entire left side of her body had become paralyzed and her speech almost incomprehensible. The tumor had started to bleed within her brain, causing further damage.  Surgery was successful in that 95% of the mass was removed; however, Annie lost all mobility on the left side of her body. She is unable to walk, take care of herself, or do everyday things that we so often take for granted.  Her prognosis remains unclear and will depend on how her body responds to the chemo, the radiation, and the trial.

After a month in extensive rehab post-surgery, Annie has finally returned home; however, the road to recovery is long and difficult. She needs physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy on a daily basis. She has begun chemo and radiation treatments, and she will begin a stem cell trial several weeks after radiation and chemo are done. However, she requires 24 hour care, the costs of which are astronomical and not fully covered by insurance or governmental aid.  The Khatchadourian family and their close family and friends have all chipped in to do whatever they can, but it is unfortunately not enough.

We are asking for your help to assist with the costs of the care she needs. Her children have all exhausted their paid time off and unfortunately can no longer afford to take further time off. Any amount that you can donate to help Annie with her fierce fight against brain cancer will go a long way and be much appreciated.

Annie is a warrior, who remains steadfast in her faith in God.  She doesn’t miss an opportunity to express her heartfelt gratitude for her life - even under these circumstances - and for the love and support of her loved ones.  She and her family believe in miracles, and we are hopeful that with your help and prayers, she will receive not only the care she desperately needs but also the miracle we’ve all been praying for.

The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support already received from friends and family, and we thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.
